2017 CDS/NACDEP Joint Conference Update

May 31,  2017

Greetings NACDEP Members -

It is less than a month until the NACDEP Annual International Conference in Big Sky, Montana June 11-14, 2017. And, it's a joint conference with CDS! We hope to see you there! This conference is shaping up to be a great event with outstanding plenaries, workshops, sessions, posters, tours, and the Silent and Live Auction that raises funds to support the NACDEP Endowment and make it possible to provide scholarships to support the professional development of NACDEP members.

Please know that donors to this year's auction will have the choice of where the proceeds go: NACDEP, CDS or a split of their choosing between the two organizations.

So What Can You Do?

Donate unique auction items that exemplify your local culture. Be creative! Select items that reflect your community and the local culture such as handmade crafts, artisan works, clothing, music, literature, beverages of all kinds, and foods. (No university or organizational swag please.) If you want to ship your item(s) ahead of time or cannot attend the conference, you may ship them to Emilie Drishinski.

Attn: Emilie Drishinski
Culbertson Hall
PO Box 170535
Bozeman, MT 59717-0535

Help us plan for and promote the auction in advance. Do you already have auction items in mind? Have you found or made a great item that you can't wait to preview? Send us some pictures! Items received by June 1st will be previewed online. Don't fret if you can't make this timeline - we will accept donations until the start of the conference. Simply complete an auction item donation form and send photographs of your auction item(s) to Linda Lee Blaine.

Make a direct cash donation to the NACDEP Endowment. Donors will be recognized at the conference!

Your donation of a locally made product, participation in the auction, or direct donation is a great way to make a lasting contribution to the NACDEP Endowment and support the continued professional growth of our members through the Scholarship Fund.

The NACDEP Development Committee and Membership Services thanks you for your support!

Sincerely,

NACDEP Development Committee - Melissa Bond and Michael Wilcox

NACDEP Membership Services - Peggy Schlechter and Connie Mefford

General Info

National Association of Community Development Extension Professionals
is an organization dedicated to improving the visibility, coordination, professional status and resource base of community and economic development Extension programs and professionals.  NACDEP makes no effort to proscribe what state or regional community resource and economic development programming and research look like, but rather is designed to assist those of us who deliver programming and do research under this broad umbrella to acquire and maintain the financial, political, technical and organizational resources we need to meet our objectives.

The Community Development Society views community development as a profession that integrates knowledge from many disciplines with theory, research, teaching, and practice as important and interdependent functions that are vital in the public and private sectors. We believe the Society must be proactive by providing leadership to professionals and citizens across the spectrum of community development. In so doing, we believe the Society must be open and responsive to the needs of its members through provisions and services which enhance professional development.  As a part of the CDS beliefs, the organization follows the core Principles of Good Practice:

  • Promote active and representative participation toward enabling all community members to meaningfully influence the decisions that affect their lives.
  • Engage community members in learning about and understanding community issues, and the economic, social, environmental, political, psychological, and other impacts associated with alternative courses of action.
  • Incorporate the diverse interests and cultures of the community in the community development process; and disengage from support of any effort that is likely to adversely affect the disadvantaged members of a community.
  • Work actively to enhance the leadership capacity of community members, leaders, and groups within the community.
  • Be open to using the full range of action strategies to work toward the long-term sustainability and well-being of the community.
